The St. Charles Borromeo Honduran Team, located in Tacoma, WA, is a 30-60 member nonprofit medical mission serving the underprivileged people of Honduras. It consists of dedicated lay people, physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, engineers and support staff who travel to Honduras once a year in late January, at their own expense, bringing health care to approximately 1800 men, women and children.
The team visits five communities every year to provide continuity of care over time. The Honduran Mission Team also works with communities to provide clean water, creating the ability to control water borne diseases that plague the population.
The funds raised here, will help me to join this team, and provide care as a nurse in Honduras. The funds go towards room and board, security, ground transit, plane tickets, and personal medical expenses such as vaccines. I am seeking help in raising these funds, as I am sadly not in a position to provide them myself at this time, but deeply wish to join this mission and help provide care to those less fortunate.
The mission is set for January 26th - February 3, 2018, and I will have to collect all the required funds by the end of December.
I am not typically one to seek charity, and try to earn things through my own work. I felt however, that perhaps seeking out funds so that I could travel abroad for a charitable cause...well that would be something worthwhile!
