My Future Family

Headline:
Narika’s fight for a family
Story:
My name is Narika, I’m 22 years old and suffer the debilitating disease Endometriosis. I’m sharing my story to raise funds so I can have a family in the future.
I also want to raise awareness of this disease, affecting one in ten Australian women, with no definitive cure.
Diagnosed at 17 years old with ‘Endo’, the tissue that lines my womb was growing outside. I suffered periods of constant pain, sometimes forcing time off work. 'Endo' can involve the ovaries, bowel, bladder and pelvis, and in some cases, infertility.
For my case infertility is becoming my future. I have had 7 surgeries so far to try control the speed the endometriosis was growing. I was left with chronic nerve damage. As long as ‘Endo’ was not growing back, my chances of having children were still high.
Tests taken this year have shown this not to be true. The disease has affected my ovaries ability to produce eggs. In two to three years my body will have stopped producing eggs all together. This means I need to have a family now or have my eggs frozen.
It has always been my dream to get married, have a house and money in the bank before bringing a child into the world. Each round to harvest eggs costs around $10,000 including the medication and procedure bills. This doesn't include travel, accommodation and other egg storage costs.
So I am hoping to raise money to help me along my journey to harvest the remaining eggs I have left. I hope to do at least two rounds to secure a family in my future. I have recently arrived home from Brisbane after a failed first round of egg collection due to my ovarian function not being strong enough even with the hormone injections. After a week of morning and nightly injections with blood tests and scans every day it became too dangerous to continue to raise the dose as I was already on one that should have been strong enough for a 40 year old. This means I have to wait a minimum of a month before travelling down again to try a different injection (Spending another $40 per script) in hopes that this one will work.
I am not someone who likes to ask for help, but a life without being able to bear my own child is not one that I’m ready to face. This is why I’m asking for help to please make my small and only dream a reality.
If you are a young woman like me and suspect you have endometriosis, please seek help.
