Napier’s Devastating House Fire

Donation protected
Yesterday afternoon, my sister and brother-in-law lost their entire home in a devestating house fire. Words cannot express the grief and anguish in her voice as she tried to tell me what happened. They lived in a sweet old house deep in a valley, deep in the hills and mountains of Southern Oregon, where they worked for 10 years to build a home that was just right for them. They gardened and remodeled and toiled and built a little sanctuary for the two of them.
Within two hours of my sister, home alone, discovered smoke on the back of their garage, their house was gone. With the help of some passing hunters and a log truck driver who saw the smoke, Dixie was able to save what she could - their beloved animals, our parent’s original paintings, computer and a few other things, but it all happened so fast, she couldn’t get out much more.
My sister, Dixie and her husband Sonny are amazingly resourceful, hardworking, and caring people who take great pride in their ability to stay strong and resilient in the face of adversity.
You see, 22 years ago, they completely lost their home in a house fire. It took my sister two decades to rebuild the memories lost from that total loss, from photographs of her children, wedding pictures, and all the little things we take for granted that we will always have and treasure.
Now, the question she asks, that we all ask is, “How could this happen again?” No one is to blame and there are no easy answers, but one thing is clear as the smoke settles: They can use all the help they can get right now.
My sister suffers from near debilitating arthritis and painful fibromyalgia daily, yet she still rises before dawn to see my brother-in-law off to work, who spends his days in a physically demanding job. They are the epitome of a homesteading work ethic, and they would never ask for anything they could muster on their own.
Many of their friends and family have asked how they can help, so we are providing an avenue for just that.
Dixie and Sonny will need basic items to get back on their feet. All the essentials like clothing, toiletries, food, basic  household goods are needed. Once their basic needs are met, they can start to rebuild their lives once again. Let’s help them do that.
Thank you so much for your support.
