Napa's Fight for Life

Donation protected
If you know my sister,  Erin Peddie, then you know that her dog Napa is her entire world. Napa was born with Guide Dogs of America to be a guide dog for the blind, and Erin was originally her foster mom. After raising her for 18 months, Erin was supposed to give Napa up and send her off to official training. At the time, Erin thought it was the hardest thing she had to do because she grew to love Napa so much. Two weeks into Napa's training, her allergies caused her to be disqualified from being a guide dog for the blind, which although a disappointment for Napa's original calling, was a blessing in disguise because Erin got to adopt Napa and give her a forever home!!

Napa and Erin do everything together! Napa goes to work at Pinterest everyday with Erin. Whether they're hiking, swimming, going to restaurants in SF, hanging at the beach, or cuddling on the couch, Erin & Napa do it all together. Even when Erin visits me in Texas, Napa flies on the plane with her and comes to visit too! Wherever Erin goes, Napa goes too! They are best friends and can't stand to be away from each other.

Five years later however, Napa is now in the fight of her life. Erin and Napa have been riding out the shelter in place orders at our family cabin near Fresno, CA. On Monday morning, May 18, Erin noticed Napa acting lethargic and not her normal happy self, and after not wanting to eat breakfast or dinner, Erin knew something was definitely wrong. She drove her to an animal hospital in Fresno last night, and after initial tests, the Vet said Napa was in Acute Liver Failure and needed to get to a specialist immediately.

In order for Napa to be stable enough to transfer to a specialist vet, she needed a plasma transfusion because the Liver Failure was causing her blood to stop clotting. After a plasma transfusion at the Fresno Vet, Erin drove through the night all the way to a Emergency Vet Hospital in San Jose, CA where Napa currently is staying.  Napa's liver enzymes are currently 70x the normal levels, and is fighting for her life by the hour. She is on antibiotics, electrolytes, blood sugar supplements, fluids, liver medications, the list goes on and on.  She has already had two plasma transfusions, and the Vet has made it clear that she potentially could need many more depending on if her condition improves or not.

As of right now her condition isn't improving, and that the Vet's prognosis is "guarded". But, all of us who know and love Napa know she is a fighter. She had faced dangerous odds before and overcome them!  Please pray above all that Napa is able to defy the odds once again, and she recover fully and be back doing her favorite things like swimming in the lake and getting belly rubs from her mom, Erin.

If you know my sister, you know that there isn't ANYTHING that she wouldn't do for Napa. Erin won't stop until Napa gets all of the best treatment and help she needs. I wanted to start this fundraiser for Erin, because emergency vet services are not cheap, and Napa has a long road ahead of her with some very costly medical services. Just from the initial tests and plasma transfusion at the first vet hospital in Fresno, the bill was $1800. Now being admitted for the longer term in San Jose, the bills will keep adding up! Depending on how many plasma transfusions she needs, it will cost Erin over $1000 a day for plasma alone. I am asking for help to make the financial burden that Erin is about to face a little less stressful. Any donation you make will go directly to help Erin pay for Napa's medical bills and treatment. As of May 21, 2020, Napa's Vet bills are $8,250, plus she needs another plasma transfusion today, so by tonight she will be over $9,000. I have upped the the fundraising limit in order to help meet these growing bills!

Any donation, no matter how big or small, is lovingly appreciated. Even if you cannot give financially, please keep Napa and my sister Erin in your prayers!!
