Napa Valley Dreamers Fund

Update as of Thursday, September 14 @ 4:00 pm.

We met our goal for Napa Valley Dreamers – and then some!

Dear Friends,

With an incredible outpouring of generosity from local donors like you, we’ve surpassed our fundraising goal in support of local Dreamers.

Since Tuesday afternoon: 77 people have made gifts totaling $44,838 to our Napa Valley Dreamers Fund.

(Please note that our GoFundMe campaign was just one of the ways we sought support for this effort.)

As you may recall, our goal was to raise $30,000 to help 60 local Dreamers pay their $495 application fee to the federal government on or before October 5th.

Because we have surpassed this goal, and believe strongly in transparency and accountability, this is what we will do with gift receipts in excess of $30,000 – both those that we have on-hand, and those that might yet come in:

       * First, we will help as many eligible Napa Valley Dreamers as we can, if there are more than 60 to be helped

       * Second, after October 5, any resources we haven’t spent on application fees will be held in the Dreamers Fund, so that we can be in a position to help eligible youth, once again, if Congress passes legislation to bring back the DACA program.

Today, we delivered a check for $30,000 to the nonprofit legal services agency helping local Dreamers file their renewal applications, the Napa office of the International Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA).

IIBA says they’ve been seeing 8-10 DACA renewal clients per day, and they expect that this number could increase with the sudden arrival of financial support.

Thank you, once again, for acting with such speed and compassion.

It turns out that harvest isn’t the only thing going at a breakneck pace in the Napa Valley.

Sincerely yours,

Terence P. Mulligan

Napa Valley Community Foundation

The President's decision to rescind DACA means at least 60 young people who live, work or go to school in Napa County now face a looming deadline of October 5 to reapply to the program -- at a cost of $495 each, payable to the government.

The goal of the Napa Valley Dreamers Fund is simple: we want to help as many eligible local youth keep their DACA status as possible, so they can continue to work, support their families or pursue a higher education.

Napa Valley Community Foundation will manage the Napa Valley Dreamers Fund, and make distributions to those in need through the Napa office of a trusted nonprofit legal services corporation: the International Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA ).

Contributions to the Dreamers Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $15,000, thanks to the generosity of several Napa Valley Community Foundation donors.

With $30,000 in-hand, we can support the filing fees of more than 60 local Dreamers.

Please join us in standing with Dreamers in Napa Valley.  For most, the only home they've ever known is right  here, and as Congressman Mike Thompson observed last week, "they are every bit as American as any one of us."

Thank you very much.
