“Reaching out” to all of Nancy Parker Geer’s Family, Colleagues, Class mates and Friends!!!

As many of you know Nancy suffered a life changing event, on July 3, 2018.  She suffered a Traumatic “Subarachnoid Hemorrhage” Brain Injury from a fall down a flight of stairs.  Nancy was in ICU at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for just over two weeks.  It took three days before she could open her eyes but she could not move anything on her right side.  She learned to swallow and was beginning to formulate words.  Nancy could no longer stay in ICU.

She was then sent to Sunnyview Acute Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady, where they specialize in injuries of her kind.  During her five week stay at Sunnyview, Nancy gradually learned to talk and perform various other skills.  She learned to walk with a walker with someone assisting as contact guard.  By the end of August, it was time for another move.

Nancy is now in an enhanced assisted living facility in Manlius.  After moving there, her insurance company allowed her to have PT and OT for ten weeks.

Nancy has made strides in her recovery but still has a ways to go.  The recovery is an uphill battle, but we all know that Nancy knows how to battle.  There have been good and bad days and days when she goes forward one step and backwards two.  Most of her progress is credited to the physical, occupational and speech therapy that she has received since July 9th from the therapists from Upstate Hospital, Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital and St. Joe’s Out Patient.  Unfortunately, the amount of therapy has been reduced, mainly due to insurance red tape.

Currently she is receiving outpatient therapy 2 times a week at Onondaga Physical Therapy in DeWitt.  We are looking to provide her with additional therapy.  We are hoping to raise $5000 to provide her with additional therapy and to assist with her co-payments and additional expenses.

Prior to her fall, Nancy was a vital, active, hardworking individual;  she still worked full time for 31 years with New York Housing Association a not-for-profit organization, the last 25 years as their Executive Director.  She is a member of the Ilion Class of 1965 and regularly attends the yearly class reunion each summer.  She has been involved for over 45 years in one aspect or another with the sport of wrestling at the youth, school, college or international level.

Nancy’s family wants to thank all of you who supported her to this point.

So let’s help Nancy – Mom – Nana continue the Battle.
