Nancy Delia's Leukemia Fund

Never in a million years would I have dreamed I would be posting a “Go Fund Me” for myself! Then again, never in a million years would I have dreamed the bad case of Flu, I thought I had, would turn out to be Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia B-cell with a PH positive Chromosome Translocation. That is a fancy way of saying, “a very aggressive blood cancer in your bone marrow.” This is a forever cancer with remission being the goal.

This news was shocking, overwhelming, numbing, terrifying and unbelievable for this 66-year-old otherwise healthy woman to even comprehend much less devise a life plan. I was in total shock paralysis. My local hospital sent me by ambulance on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, to The North Carolina Baptist Medical Center and treatment was begun immediately. I was in a whirlwind of therapies, bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures and blood transfusions to get me strong enough to begin the actual treatments. I will begin the third phase of my treatment on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. This will last several months and then the final phase of treatment will last for two to three years.

I am also taking a targeted drug specifically for the PH+ chromosome. I will take this drug for the rest of my life. To give you a feel for the financial resources needed to keep me on this earth, this vital targeted drug has a co-pay of $2400.00 per month. That is just one of the many medications I will need monthly throughout my lifetime.

For the record, I thought I had done my due diligence with Medicare Part A and B and Prescription Part D with a medi-gap policy but it is not enough to cover my intensive treatment. My Social Security income is not enough to support my treatment costs and my minimal living expenses. I have been unable to work in my coaching business since October 2017.

As you can imagine, this has been a bumpy road physically, mentally and financially. My entire life has been turned upside down and put on hold to fight this disease. However, I am a fighter with a positive attitude and I am up for the challenge. I will never give up!

I am so fortunate to report that I am doing very well. My side effects have been bothersome but minimal except for the extreme fatigue. I am responding very well to the therapy and I am progressing along the treatment timeline positively.

I am committed to fighting this cancer and accepting a new “normal” for my life.

I am extremely lucky to have great friends near and far that have circled me with love, prayers, emotional support, food, cheerleading and help with my pets. I am in forever gratitude.

I am reaching out to you with love and hope in my heart to ask for any assistance you are able to offer. This is very difficult for me to ask as I am usually the giver. I am humbled and grateful for the assistance that has already been offered. I thank you in advance for your financial support.

Thank you.

In deep gratitude,

Nancy Delia
