Nancy Johnson Memorial Fund

Very early on March 19th, Amanda Nelson got the worst news ever. Her mother, Nancy Johnson, was in St. Louis University hospital unconscious and she might never wake up, and she never did. Today, April 2, Nancy left her earthly body and died.

Nancy and her husband Robert had been together for over 30 years. They worked together at a WalMart in St. Louis, Mo with Nancy's daughter Amanda. To people not close to the situation, it was a perfect marriage. Even Nancy's closest friends and family could not imagine where it would end up.

The evening of March 18, Robert called friends of his and Nancy's and asked them to help him take her to the hospital because she had fallen out of bed and he could not get her to wake up. Upon seeing Nancy, the friends called 911 themselves and paramedics took her to St. Louis University hospital. On the way to the hospital, the paramedics alerted police to the situation because Nancy's injuries were not consistent with  Robert's telling of the events. Later Robert admitted to a detective that he had hit and kicked Nancy repeatedly, leading to a severe brain bleed. Doctor's prognosis was bleak. Nancy would almost certainly be paralyzed on one side of her body and ever seeing or speaking again was questionable. She suffered several strokes over two weeks, but she never woke up.

In the mean time, family discovered that Robert may have tried to flee. A bag of his clothes was found packed by the door with a large quantity of his wife's jewelry inside.

Currently Robert is being held by the St Louis police and is charged with crimes relating to domestic assault.

Nancy had health and life insurance, but the level of care she received in her last days is expensive and may not cover all of her final expenses and medical expenses. Any funds raised would go to ease the financial burden placed on the grieving family and go towards Nancy's medical expenses and funeral and burial expenses, including a headstone. Any leftover funds would be donated to Crime Victim's Advocacy Center.

Nancy is survived by 2 daughters - Amanda (Rick) and Ashley, 3 grandsons - Michael, Austin, and Marcus, a granddaughter - Reegan, a brother - Vincent, and 3 sisters - Sally, Dorothy, and Francis.
