Background:
After returning to Las Vegas, NV in 2013 to care for her elderly mother, Nance Coggeshall was diagnosed with chronic, late-stage Lyme disease. This poorly-understood malady had already wracked her immune system after decades of misdiagnosis and inadequate treatment.
Nance's mom passed away October 2016. In May 2017, Nance was diagnosed as uterine cancer. After 2 major surgeries, all visible cancer was removed in a complete hysterectomy. Chemo and/or radiation were recommended, but not options because the immune and adrenal systems are already compromised from Lyme disease, her body is too weak to overcome the detrimental effects of the only cancer treatments paid for by Medicaid. Nance must collect funds to cover treatments for both illnesses since insurance will not cover those.
Nance is impoverished by years of inability to work. Her disability claim was denied multiple times. She had been hoping for these retro-active funds in order to cover the medical treatments and supplements needed since conventional doctors do not recognize this systemic illness. Nance is being represented by a 'Lyme-literate' disability lawyer who understands the hard-won cases at a precedent-setting level. The success of her advocacy for Nance is not completed; as of June 2023 the date of the final outcome cannot be estimated.
