Give a New Year's Gift, Keep a Girl in School

 

We have a major crisis in our midst! Many girls got pregnant when they stayed home from school for 3 months during the Corona lockdown in Tanzania. They were impregnated by family members, friends and neighbors. Additionally, according to the country's laws, teenage mothers are forbidden from returning to government schools. Remember that most girls attend government schools because they are free of charge, and most parents cannot afford private schools which can take these teenage mothers. As if that is not enough, some parents who have fallen on very hard times after loosing their jobs due to Corona impact, can no longer afford to keep their girls in secondary school and college. 

 

To defend gains we have painfully made in girls' education, we MUST address this crisis!

Our goal of €7,000 will help keep 20 girls in secondary school and college in 2021 and 2022. These donations will go to:

1) Paying fees, board (for some), miscellaneous expenses such as books, uniforms, and sanitary articles

2) Hold preparatory workshops for will-be teenage mothers about psychotherapy, reproductive health, and hygiene. This will involve inviting social workers and doctors from major hospitals

 

We strengthen families in Tanzania by empowering girls and women, and the youth in general, using education, arts, and entrepreneurship programs, as well as health, hygiene and environmental projects. Our website: https://forwardstep.org/
