Building Nala's Sanctuary - Casa Abrigo da Nala

EN: Hello, we are Movimento de Intervenção pelas Matilhas and, at present, we care for more than 80 street dogs in Coimbra and for about 20 dogs, also mainly rescued from the streets of Coimbra many years ago and that were never adopted.

While caring for the ones we can not rescue, in the last 4 years we found homes for more than 120 dogs, mainly puppies.

Our dream is to build a sanctuary where the dogs rescued and that never found a family can live a peaceful and amazing life. A place where volunteers and the comunity in general like to go and be with them. We want to give them the best we can... and we do believe its possible, with your help.

Why Nala's Shelter? Nala was a young street dog, we caught when she was around 1 year and almost dying... During one month we fought hard for her and gave her every possible medical treatment. Despite not surviving, Nala taught us a lot about acceptance, compassion and unity... and we cannot think of a better name for our dream place.

The estimate cost of all this project - between land, fences and the parks / shelter houses - is around 90.000 eur and it will be ready to host around 50 dogs and receive the comunity in open days to learn about animal wellfare.

We already have the land, thanks to a major donator, that contributed with 21.000 eur.

For the fixing of the land (because it flooded) we are now having the help of another great donator that is sponsoring it in around 2.500 eur.

So, at this moment, we are trying to raise the money for fencing (estimated cost of 25.000 eur) and from there we will look into new ways of sponsoring this dream project...

PT: Olá, somos o Movimento de Intervenção pelas Matilhas e, atualmente, cuidamos de mais de 80 cães de rua em Coimbra e de cerca de 20 cães que estão connosco, também resgatados das ruas de Coimbra há muitos anos e que nunca foram adotados.

Enquanto cuidamos dos adultos e bebes que não conseguimos resgatar, nos últimos 4 anos encontramos lares para mais de 120 cães.

O nosso sonho é construir um santuário onde os cães resgatados e que nunca encontraram uma família possam viver uma vida pacífica e incrível. Um lugar onde os voluntários e a comunidade em geral gostem de ir e estar com eles. Queremos dar-lhes o melhor que podemos... e acreditamos que é possível, com a vossa ajuda.

Porquê Casa Abrigo da Nala?

A Nala era uma cadela de matilha jovem, que apanhámos a morrer quando tinha cerca de 1 ano... Durante um mês lutamos muito por ela e demos-lhe todos os tratamentos médicos possíveis. Apesar de não sobreviver, a Nala ensinou-nos muito sobre aceitação, compaixão e união... e não conseguimos pensar num nome que represente melhor o nosso lugar de sonho.

O custo total estimado deste projeto - incluindo terreno, vedações e as infrastruturas de parques e casas abrigo - é de cerca de 90.000 eur e vai permitir receber cerca de 50 cães e acolher a comunidade em ações sobre bem estar animal, que acreditamos serem muito importantes na mudança de mentalidade.

Neste momento já temos o terreno, graças a uma doadora que contribuiu na aquisição do mesmo (21.000 eur) e estamos a preparar a terra (inundava), o que está a ser assegurado por outra doadora e que fica em cerca de 2.500 eur.

Por isso, neste momento, estamos a angariar o valor para as vedações (custo estimado de 25.000 eur) e daí em diante continuaremos a procurar formas de concretizar este projeto de sonho.
