<div>My name is Karam and I am 27 years old. I am a young man like any other young man in the world. I have dreams and ambitions. Since childhood, I used to tell my mother that I wanted to become a nurse. After getting my diploma in nursing, I had a passion to work as a specialized nurse with children. I worked in various hospitals as a volunteer nurse to contribute to helping children and I volunteered in an organization that supports children with cystic fibrosis. I have a personal connection with this rare disease since I have lost my dear uncle to cystic fibrosis.

<div>Before the war, I was preparing to leave Gaza to complete my education, but when the war came, it destroyed everything, and I felt that I had lost hope. But I did not remain idle during the war. I worked as a volunteer nurse to save children and the wounded. Then an opportunity came to me, and I was invited to attend a conference in the UK to represent the voices of children with cystic fibrosis in Gaza. I was very keen to attend the conference but unfortunately my visa application was rejected.

<div>I managed to leave Gaza and fled to Egypt, but I had to leave my family behind. I know that my family is in danger, the danger of death, hunger, and disease that no longer leaves them, and this is after our beautiful home was destroyed. My family was displaced, and they have to live in a tent that is not suitable for human living, especially for elderly people with chronic diseases. My father is diabetic, and my grandmother and grandfather are also sick and need special care. I have a brother who suffers from osteoarthritis, so I am constantly thinking of ways for them to be safe.

<div>The war destroyed our house, robbed us of our beautiful memories and of our family gatherings, and separated me from the people I love. Here, I cannot see my mother’s face like I used to every morning. I am separated from my brothers and my grandmother, I miss seeing them chatting, joking and eating together.

<div>I am always very worried, and a question is running through my mind. Will we go back one day to the way we were? Will I be able to see my family and my mother’s face, which I miss more and more day by day?

My family is suffering, beyond the pictures you see, their reality is much more difficult and dangerous.
