Surgeries for My Cocker Spaniels

Donation protected
Ricky and Lucy are family members and touch the lives of all who meet them. These two behave much like siblings even though they are not related. As dog moms and dads know, sometimes a family member isn’t related but they find their way to our hearts and forever change our lives.

This is the case with Ricky and Lucy. And now they need help in order to remain the happy, loving Cocker Spaniels that they are.

As the mom of two beautiful human girls, our home was empty when our eldest daughter moved out to start a family of her own. My husband and I decided to find our dream dog, and that’s when Lucy came along. As a puppy, Lucy taught us the meaning of unconditional love. This adorable puppy soon became a perfectly well-behaved adult dog, and at the age of 7 she continues to leave her pawprints etched across our lives and hearts.

Potato Chips and Cocker Spaniels

Cocker Spaniels are a lot like potato chips: Once you start, you can’t just have one. Since my husband I worked all day at the time, we felt bad about leaving little Miss Lucy alone all day long. Within a year, Ricky, a brown and white Cocker Spaniel, came into our lives.

Together, these two became friends, buds, and spend their days napping, playing ball, occasionally cuddling, and forever trying to table surf together.

Dynamic Duo

The night I went into labor with our first daughter, the television show my husband and I watched together was “I Love Lucy.” We decided that Lucy was a perfect name for our precious red and white Cocker Spaniel. Her “brother from another mother,” of course, would be named Ricky to complete this dynamic duo’s bond.

Over the years, our dogs have introduced us to some of our closest friends. People who truly love dogs are some of the most kind, caring, and special people on Earth, and we are blessed to call many of them our friends.

From beach meetups to dog wedding gala fundraisers for homeless dogs, Ricky and Lucy touch the lives of all those they encounter. We are fortunate to keep in touch with Ricky’s littermates, so we can monitor the health of all the dogs.

Everything was going well and like all unexpected things in life, one day the rug was pulled out from beneath us.

Life Changes

At a routine checkup for both dogs recently, the vet discovered a few issues with both dogs. Namely, our Lucy has two suspicious lumps that must be removed and assessed for cancer and Ricky has one that needs to be removed. Both dogs are in need of a dental cleaning. In total, the bill will be $2,000 for both surgeries, teeth cleanings, biopsies, and any medications.

Overall, Lucy is a healthy girl but does have some eye issues that require costly medications. This is the first time we’ve encountered some major health issues, and we are both scared and wanting to have the procedures performed as soon as possible.

The reason I am sharing all of this is because this is a cry for help. We are in desperate need of money to have these procedures performed and help our dogs get the care they need.

Unexpected Times

My husband works and I was previously employed as a kindergarten teacher for many years at a learning center. I had to leave my full-time job due to hearing loss and Meniere’s disease. I care for my grandson during the day, but my hearing loss and symptoms are progressively getting worse. I do have a part-time job outside of the home, but even with our combined incomes, we are unable to afford the surgeries.

It is with a heavy heart that I am asking for your assistance so that Lucy and Ricky can get the help they need. This is the first time in my life I’ve ever asked for something, and this is very difficult for me to do.

I ask you to please help us pay for Lucy and Ricky’s medical costs at this time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. If you are able, thank you in advance for helping to help Ricky and Lucy.
