To my family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, those I have not met and anyone I've forgotten:

My name is T.J. Burget and when I was 23 I began to have a desire to help in countries that were different than America, specifically Africa. One of my dreams was to hold a basketball camp. I love coaching young people, and one of the fastest growing sports in the world is basketball.
Fast forward 10 years, and in the fall of 2015 I got on an airplane and traveled to Nairobi, Kenya. There I met up with some very cool people, Brenda and Garry Kean, and checked out what they were doing in Nairobi. After spending a week hanging out and talking with them we came to a decision.  In August of 2016 I will be joining the Jacaranda team in Nairobi, with a team of my own, to put on a youth camp and basketball camp!

The camp is a week long and there will be children from the age of 9 all the way to 19! During this week the teams will help these young people by pouring into them love, wisdom, and life skills and teaching them the game of basketball. These kids are not your average kids by any means. We will be taking kids out of the slums of Nairobi and putting them up for a week at a boarding school.  There they will be fed and given a roof over their heads. They will be protected and respected, loved on, and most importantly allowed to be a kid.

We have several goals for the camp. We want to teach these young men and women life lessons that they can use while on their own. We want them to experience the game of basketball and the many lessons that team sports can teach.  We want them to better understand themselves and the unique talents and abilities that God has given them. We want them to see how they can make a difference in their world and finally, we want them to have an opportunity to have fun while they are young. You see these kids live in such poverty that it's hard for most of us to understand. When I was talking with the kids on the initial trip a lot of them do not have high hopes for their future. Most think they will be stuck in the slums and when they are older they will have to fight for survival like their parents are doing. This camp is more than just basketball and hanging out; it's giving hope.

I have started this go fund me project because without your generous donations we would not be able to hold this camp. As we all know, there is a cost associated with most things in life. These kids come from families that are barely able to afford food. Although the parents would love to see this type of opportunity for their child, they have no money to send their child to camp. Because of this I am asking for your support. We are hoping to send 200 kids to camp and the cost per child/teen is $100. This includes food, shelter, protection, and transportation.
The total project is $32k. This amount is broken up into 3 main parts: $20k for the students, $5k for the staff - security - utilities, and $7k for the team's transportation

I am asking that you would partner with myself, the other volunteers and the Jacaranda community by giving a donation to either sponser a camper or a volunteer or to help with the overhead cost.  I believe that each person attending this camp will leave with his or her life impacted in a powerful and positive way and I would love for you to be a part of that!

If you have any questions please reach out to me! We may not all be able to travel to another country but with your help we can all make a huge difference in the lives of others.
