Nail Tech Tuition Help

Donation protected
My name is Pamela Sawyer, and I am an adult going back to school to become a nail technician. Eleven years ago I had carbon monoxide poisoning leaving me with permanent disabilities, no job, and too many issues to be able to work for somebody else on a set schedule. But what the accident didn't take from me was my passion for nails, nail art, and wanting to help other people feel beautiful and cared for. I recently moved to an area that has a technical college with a nail technician program only fifteen minutes from my home. The night classes available fit around my disabilities and can be completed in three months. I finally feel like getting my license and having a small, reliable source of income is in reach.

Because I've been out of work for so long, just selling crafts online and at shows to barely get by, I need help with tuition. In addition to being close, the technical college I've chosen is highly rated and also inexpensive. My $2,000 goal will cover the full cost of tuition, the required books and kit, as well as a small camera I'll need as an ADA concession so I can record my lessons to review later.

I plan to start classes in March if it's safe to do so, with tuition being due January 20th, 2021. The college offers a full refund on tuition up to the first day of class. If it's not safe to start in March due to COVID, I will withdraw from class and apply for their next night course in October. When I get the refund I'll put the money in a high interest savings account, and not touch it at all until October tuition is due. I consider any donations an absolute promise that I will complete my course and successfully obtain my license.

After getting my nail tech license I plan to have a home studio where I can set my own hours and work around my disabilities. My house already has a great studio space just waiting to be set up. I also plan to make home visits to people who can't make it to a salon or to my studio. Thanks to my own disabilities I know how difficult it can be to get out of the house for a variety of reasons. Finally, I want to do some volunteer work at senior centers. I've watched how seniors can light up when they feel seen, listened to, and cared for, and they'll end the day with art to look at right at the ends of their fingers.
