Matix's Journey

Donation protected
Matix Eklund is 3 years old and was born with a rare genetic syndrome caused by a micro deletion in his chromosome, my husband Casey is a carrier of the micro deletion. Thrombocytopenia absent radium syndrome more commonly known as TARS. Breaking it down thrombocytopenia effects Matix's platelets making him prone to easy bleeding and bruising, the absent radius part effects each person with TARS differently Matix has short arm TARS meaning he has no radii bilaterally, think of your wrist being attached at your shoulder. Matix has had 6 surgeries including 3 on his legs to help straighten them so he is able to walk more stable. Matix wears a helmet because of his instability and when a fall happens it's not like a typical fall it usually involves a trip to the ER and a platelet transfusion. Matix has had well over 150 platelet transfusions in his little life. I have to say as a mom I may be partial but he has got to be the most kind hearted gentle strong soul! I could write novels on what he has been through but I'm trying to keep it to the point :)

We have always done everything on our own and never really taken on any type of fundraisers or donations because we felt it was our place to take care of Matix. Until now we have done fairly well, but now Matix is at the age where he is wanting to be more independent and we need some help. There are few things Matix can do completely on his own without any assistance, things you and I probably take for granted like going to the bathroom getting in and out of the bathtub and climbing into his own bed. We are raising money to help with the modifications we want to help Matix be more independent. We would like to make the door knobs lower for him to be able to reach and open them on his own, modify the bathroom to help him be able to go on his own. There is also a lot of little things like dressing sticks to help pull his pants up and pull shirts over his head. Matix mentally is so mature and wise beyond his years and I feel that him being dependent on me is hindering him. Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated and means the world to us. ❤️

Thank you for reading a little bit of Matix's story, most of you have been with us through Matix's journey but if you are able to share his story we would be so grateful!
