Help My Sister Beat Leukemia

In October 2015 my 24 year old sister Mariah went to the doctor due to back pain. She thought the cold weather was causing excessive back distress brought on by an auto accident she sustained years prior. After a medical panel was done, the doctors found her spleen was enlarged and her white blood cell count was substantially high. Further tests were done to rule out infection.
Mariah lives by strong convictions. I've watched her compassion grow from the time she was a young girl, caring for small animals and sharing her joy with those around her.
She has dedicated many hours, often at her own expense, to raise funds and awareness for single mothers, young children, struggling families, and those less fortunate. She is a friend to many and offers so much love to those around her.
In November my little sis called me to set up a lunch date. I could tell by her tone that she had bad news. She remained positive, but as her older brother, I could hear the anxiety in her voice. She was scared.
Mariah has Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL).
She has a disease that less than 200k US citizens suffer from annually. CLL is an exceptionally rare diagnosis for someone so young. Two Hundred Thousand sounds like a large number, but compared to other more prominant cancers and disorders, CLL draws less attention from medical groups and fundraisers. Therefore, fewer funds are available for medical researchers. The treatment cost is exorbitant and even with insurance, it's a heavy burden for a single mom. Averaging over $65,000 annually.
Mariah is raising her lively three year old son Elijah. She works a full-time job and has always been a cornerstone of the family. Always planning and saving to help with family trips and events.
I never thought that she would be the one that needed help. She has always been there for us, for her family, for her friends, for her community. Mariah has been there to help every way that she could.
Now she needs our help.
There are many people out there that need help, many who are suffering and need support.
