FN95 Masks for Essential Workers in Peel Region

I have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to purchase FN95 masks and have them sent to vulnerable, essential workers in Peel Region, who desperately need them.

The Ontario government's actions to curb COVID have been slow and ineffective.   Workplace spread is dominating new cases, particularly in Peel, as too many businesses are open and not providing paid sick days. Worst of all, workplaces have not been asked to adapt to the new knowledge that COVID is airborne and transmitted by aerosols. Read the evidence here. The World Health Organization has just acknowledged the role of airborne aerosol transmission on April 30 (WHO). People being forced to work under these conditions need improved protection.

I have an agreement with Canada Strong Masks to procure their FN-N95-508 respirator masks for $1 each (if I can buy 50,000 of them), and will deliver them to Food Banks in Peel Region. These are excellent masks that meet N95 filtration requirements - providing the aerosol protection workers need. You can read more about them here.  I believe sending the masks to food banks will maximize the benefit, since those utilizing food banks tend to be the most vulnerable to COVID as they are unlikely to be able to take time off if symptomatic or exposed, or to get tested, or even get vaccinated. They may also not be able to afford more expensive masks to protect them against aerosol transmission.

I am privileged that I am able to work from home and stay safe. I am calling on those like me to use our privilege to help those in greatest need of protection. It takes just $5 to provide a week's worth of COVID protection to an essential, vulnerable worker, and potentially protect their entire household. Imagine the impact if we can deliver 50,000 masks to the most vulnerable people in the hottest region in Ontario.

Please note that if the goal is not reached, the full donated value will still be used to purchase masks and deliver them to Peel food banks.  The unit price will only be marginally higher.  The more money we can raise the more purchasing power we will have to help those in need!
