Adventures with Emmaline

I am starting this fund raiser for my sweet little niece, Emmaline Grace. She is a very beautiful, bright, and brave little girl. After noticing her eye lid drooping over a few days, my sister and brother-in-law took Emma to her pediatrician. She ended up seeing a different doctor than she normally sees, and was sent right to the children's hospital in Richmond, Virginia. The next day, they performed MRI and MRA which revealed a mass behind her left eye. Emma was then transferred to the University of Virginia hospital in Charlottesville the next morning. Upon arrival, she had a room awaiting her and was prepped and sent into surgery.

The surgery went very well and 90% of the mass was removed. But then our family received the news that the mass was a malignant tumor called Rhabdomyosarcoma. It is a very rare cancer. After more tests, the doctors determined that the type Emma has is very curable. She still has to undergo a bone scan and a bone marrow biopsy to rule out any bone involvement, which the doctors believe will be clear.

Through this entire ordeal, which has only been a week, Emmaline has shown such bravery and beautiful innocence. She has already returned to preschool and is enjoying seeing her friends. It is like her world has never skipped a beat. She has gone with the flow and continues to amaze us all with her sweet little personality. She is winning all the nurses and doctors over already!

Starting early next week, Emma will have a port placed under her skin in her chest for the administration of her chemotherapy. She will also have to get radiation therapy 12 weeks into chemo. She has a long journey ahead, but her entire family is taking this adventure together with her.

I would like to at least raise the money to cover their out of pocket insurance expense. They also will be making weekly trips to Charlottesville for Emma's treatment, which is a 2 hour drive from their home. The estimated treatment time is 22 weeks. Gas is expensive as well and every little bit can only help.

I never thought of asking people for help, let alone money. If you can contribute anything at all, it would be much appreciated. Please continue to pray for Emmaline and our entire family as we head into this adventure together. Thank you and may God richly bless you.
