My name is Glenn Green and I am 13 years old. I currently attend Maureen Joy Charter School and am a student in the Pioneer Scholars program at the Emily K Center. I have attended Maureen Joy since I was in Kindergarten, but want to expand my horizons, meet new people, and experience new challenges. With the support of my family and other important people in my life, I decided to apply to Durham Academy for my 8th grade year.
I had a chance to be a part of the Durham Academy community for a half day this winter and that made me sure that I was making the right decision. I submitted my application and was accepted! Having the opportunity to attend a new school – a private school, is a really big thing for me. I am nervous and excited at the same time.
Attending Durham Academy means so much to me because I believe that this school can help me have a better future, prepare me for the challenges of high school, and to help me get into a great college. All of these things will help me to do things I have never done before and will continue to open new doors for me.
Setting and achieving goals is very important to me. When I was in second grade, I was determined to become a part of the Emily K Center’s Pioneer Scholars program. I am now in my fourth year there! Last year, I wrote an article about my career goals. I want to be an art director when I grow up and that dream was partially fulfilled and completely reinforced, when I was granted the opportunity to intern at McKinney advertising agency in Durham for a week this past summer – the youngest paid intern in their history. These are both experiences that I am grateful for and will help me to continue to shape my future.
Even though I am only 13 years old, I wanted to be able to contribute to my education, and your generosity has helped me to accomplish that. I am proud to say that I will be attending Durham Academy in the fall!
