JMU Dominican Republic Study Abroad

Dear friends and family,
I am overjoyed (and having a hard time believing it!) to share with you that I am going back to the Dominican Republic for the third time :) One of the professors in my special education program at JMU invited me to participate in the first-ever study abroad in the DR this summer, tentatively set to be from May 16th to June 10th of 2016. We will primarily be in La Romana, working with teachers in their classrooms to help them serve students with disabilities through both academic and behavior interventions. We will spend some time in Santo Domingo, the country's capital, learning from Ministry of Education officials about the training that teachers receive from the national level and what laws govern the education of students with disabilities. Most of all, our experience, "will allow [participants] to understand, in powerful ways, how diverse characteristics of students impact on the need to differentiate instruction for students." As excited as I have been for my past experiences in the DR, I am so in awe of how God has orchestrated this trip, the chance I have been offered to take a leadership position as the trip's Teaching Assistant, and the way it lines up so directly with what He placed on my heart as I left in August of last year- that I wanted to be in the classroom if / when He led me to go back. I know with full confidence that I won't be going if every little thing doesn't line up according to my Father's plans, and I've come face to face with that this week: my first deadline of a $500 deposit is on Friday (today). I have some money of my own to offer, but grad school is no joke expense-wise.
This is me coming to you and asking for help. And also letting you know what is going on with me! If you are able and you would like to, this page is a way for you to invest in my trip this May. So thankful for each and every one of you.
