A Family in Need

August 26th 2017 Hurricane Harvey came through and devastated much of the southern part of Texas. My dear best friend and her family fell victim to his catastrophic flooding. They lost their vehicles, their home and everything inside that they had worked their whole lives building. They were rescued from the flood waters and taken to several nearby shelters. If there is anyway anyone can help us get them the things they need it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount of money or even just everyday household items, clothes, pillows, blankets...anything. XL, XXL, men and womans clothing, childrens size 11 and 12 clothing. I will accept all items into my home to store for her and all money will be given to the family to help them start rebuilding their lives. Brandy's daughter is going to be 11 years old in December, if anyone has children's clothing, school supplies or anything to help. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your love and support. Those are the two most important things. This is her family's story;
"Saturday we were in our home in Friendswood, TX 77546. The weather had let up quite a bit, so we thought we thought we would be ok. It started to rain pretty heavy that evening. The water started coming up the driveway and the creek behind our home. We still had hope that it would drain. Within a few hours the water was at our front door and back door. We were closed in. We called for help from the national guard at around 11:30 pm. We posted for help on Facebook around that time as well. We had myself, my husband, my 10 year old daughter, 1 year old neice, brother, and sister in law with us. At about 12:30 am the water broke through the house and we lost power. The water gushed in through the front and back doors. My husband went to swim out to try to find us a way to higher ground. When he came back, we had surf boards out ready to push the kids to safety. The water at this point was over our knees in our home. Luckily we spotted some large trucks a few houses down. We flagged them down with our flashlights and screamed for help. They came over and grabbed the children first and put them on a dump truck. The city of Friendswood had deployed volunteer fire fighters to help save people. We went around through other streets and neighborhoods for several hours trying to help as many people as we could. We ended up being split from my brother and his family because they ended up dropping them off at a dance studio that was still above water. They told us we were going to a shelter, we ended up going back into another neighborhood to save more families with young children. We finally headed back to try to get to a shelter. We drove over Mary's creek in Friendswood and the dump truck started floating. It was tipping over to the right and we all jumped over to the left of the truck. We finally caught ground and soon after that we stalled out. We were stuck in the truck while it was lightning and thundering and pouring rain. They had to call for an army truck to come rescue us. The truck started to take on water. Finally the truck arrived to save us. They tied a rope to our truck and we swam to the army truck. They dropped us off at kroger to wait to be rescued again to go to a shelter. The army truck came back to get us. We were going over some curbs when the tire blew and we almost tipped over. We had to wait again to be rescued by another truck. Finally they came to get us and we were taken to Friendswood high school where our dear friend Jessica Richardson and her family picked us up to take us to Pearland, TX. My brother and his family ended up walking further north from the dance studio because it started to take on water. One of there neighbors came to pick them up and they made it home safely with my one year old neice. We are all together now as I write this Sunday August 27th, 2017. We saw pictures of our home that is completely under water. We lost our three vehicles and my brother's truck as well. Luckily we are alive and together now."
