Build a Baseball Field in the DR

My name is Michele and my husband and I met Saul when we helped build a home in the Dominican Republic in December of 2014. Saul volunteers with Home of Hope, one of the largest programs of Youth With A Mission (YMAM) in San Pedro, Dominican Republic. During this missionary work building homes for Home of Hope, he realized the need for the kids of San Pedro to have an opportunity to build their skills, talent and dreams in baseball. With the help of his friend Roland Milan (a former New York Mets baseball player and Dominican), they started a league for the children of the community they spend so much time helping.
Here is what Saul has to say:
"Last year, the state governor came to the field they currently use and said that the field belongs to the neighborhood and we have the freedom to use it. Before, it was run down and over grown, but with a lot of hard work from Rolando, our coach, we are making it functional again.
For the field itself, we want to make it a safe place for the community. Because baseball is such a big part of the lives of the Dominicans, we believe that this place could have a huge influence on the environment of the community. In order to do this, we need to fix the field. This begins with a backstop, fences, cleaning the remaining portions of the field, building dugouts, etc.
Besides our field, we are seeking to have uniforms for the kids and good equipment to use. Also, because many of these young men are under our care we want to help them be healthy with what they eat and where they live. Being in such close proximity to the boys, it is easy to have an eternal imprint on their lives as well. We are seeking to help them grow into men of God through fellowship with YWAM and the local church.
To begin, we have a hope of raising four thousand dollars. This money would mostly go towards bettering the condition of the field, for the safety of the community and the players."
I was humbled by meeting Saul and the people of the Dominican Republic. The few days I spent helping Homes Of Hope made such an impact on my life and I would like to help their mission in anyway I can. Please help me raise money to help the people of the Dominican by donating a few dollars toward Saul's goal. We have the privilege of walking to many beautiful fields in our community and watch our children play in a safe environment. Let's help Saul do the same!
