Our story begins in December of 2014. During Christmas vacation we noticed Tyler's right eye was turned inward and he was unable to move it. We made an appiontment with an eye doctor thinking he might need glasses to treat lazy eye.
On December 26th, we learned his eyes were healthy, and this could be a neuological issue. We immediately visited All Children's Hospital for an MRI scan, where the tumor on his brain stem was found. Initially we were told that due to the location of the tumor, a biopsy would be risky. Several weeks later the tumor had grown 50 percent and action was needed. The doctors were able to successfully biopsy and remove 30% of the tumor. Tyler recovered beautifully from surgery with no neurological damage and was released to the comforts of home after only two days.
After the surgery we learned that the tumor is a grade 3 aggressive glioma named anaplastic astrocytoma. We started radiation treatments through Florida Tampa Hospital. Tyler has been amazing and brave during these treatments without the use of anesthesia, a remarkable accomplishment for a five year old. Our future remains in God's hands, however we would like to give our son every opportunity for success. After the radiation treatments, Tyler and I will temporarilly move to Denver, Colorado to purse alternative medication that show some success in combatting brain tumors.
Since Christmas Kristen has left the classroom and her teaching career to focus on Tyler's treatments and spending time with Tyler. These funds will cover Tyler's brain surgery, radiation treatments, and other medical costs.
