Hey Everyone,
So I’m setting up a fundraising platform to help me return to college and finish my senior year of college. As many of you know I was attending Gordon until I had to ultimately take a leave of absence due to issues regarding my mental health. Leaving college without finishing was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever made. Attaining a college degree has been a dream of mine since I was a young child. However, the time away from school was good for me. I was able to step away from a difficult situation and regain strength mentally, physically, and spiritually. When I originally left school I felt unsure about my ability to ever finish; but after having the time to recuperate, I regained the strength and confidence to return and finish my degree.
While I am so grateful for the opportunity to return and finish my final year of school, there are few obstacles in the way that may make it difficult to return. A major one is that in the past year my parents experienced a drastic financial setback which impacted their financial resources tremendously; coupled with retirement, which reduced their annual salary to a level that is impossible for them to fully contribute to my education this semester. This has been extremely difficult for my family because it is of much of their dream as it is mine to finish school. They are both currently retired and have even picked up second part-time jobs to support me and it’s been painful that we are still coming up quite short. In addition to their efforts, I will be working about 30 hours a week to support myself as much as I can while finishing school this year.
This semester I will need about $3,500 to get through my first semester. This cost is derived of how much it will cost for me to travel to Gordon via public transportation since I do not drive. As many of you know the commuter rail is quite costly and will alone cost about $200 per month which isn’t including other parts of my commute such as the subway and lyfts (since my school is quite some distance from my commuter rail stop). This will also include how much I will need to pay for books this current semester.
I understand that this a lot to ask for but any amount large or small will make such a huge difference in my life and the lives of my parents. I’m determined to finish my degree at any cost even if it requires being vulnerable on a platform such as this. I also understand that many of you may be on tight budgets such as myself and are dealing with financial struggles of your own – so even the act of praying for my family or simply sharing this post would mean the world to me. Finally, in giving, would you please personally message me your mailing address so I can send a small thank you gift for your amazing support?
