On March 2, 2017, my Dad was involved in a kite-surfing accident in Baja Mexico. Severe winds forced his kite to invert, launching him into a wall. He suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), changing our lives forever.

I have decided to launch this GoFundMe page on his 1 year anniversary to raise awareness and funds for the Craig Hospital Foundation. Craig Hospital specializes in treating survivors that have suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and/or Spinal Cord Injury. The Hospital holds an annual fundraiser in which donations are collected for the victims and families affected by these catastrophic injuries. Proceeds fund programs like Therapeutic Recreation, Adaptive Technology, Music Therapy, Community Reintegration and education programs – which are generally not covered by insurance. The funds raised will also help patients with minimal income or inadequate insurance travel to and from Craig, purchase equipment like wheelchairs and shower chairs, remodel homes for accessibility, train caregivers, pay mortgages and rent and meet other urgent needs. This money is so incredibly critical for enhancing the quality of life for these survivors and their caregivers.

TBI Facts:
>Over 2.5 million TBIs occur in the U.S. annually (13 per second).
>3.2 – 5.3 million people in the U.S. are currently living with a TBI-related disability (1 in every 60).
>Severity: mild, moderate, severe (Dad had severe).
>70-80% of all TBIs are mild, which includes concussions.
>Hospital bills can range anywhere between $85K and $3M.
>The average cost for caring for a survivor can cost between $600K to $1.8M over a lifetime.
>No two brain injuries are the same.
>Recovering from a TBI can be a long journey.
>The “invisible” injury: Sometimes people may seem fully recovered, but in fact are still dealing with the ongoing consequences of their injury.
>How to support someone with a TBI: Be patient, positive, encouraging, and understanding as they acclimate to their new normal.

Many emotions run through my head on this day, but one in particular stands out - GRATEFUL. I am grateful for my dad's survival and continued strength throughout his recovery. I am grateful for all of his doctors, physicians, nurses and therapists who kept him alive and thriving. I am grateful for the ongoing support of our incredible family and friends who have been there throughout our journey. Finally, I am grateful for Craig Hospital. Their care, professionalism, knowledge and genuine attentiveness to the families is indescribable, which is why they are world-renowned.

ALL proceeds will be donated to Craig Foundation at The PUSH Gala on April 28, 2018. Any donation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance. Sincerely, The Land Family. #BOBBYSTRONG and God Bless.
