It was two and a half years ago that Krystal received news that would change her life forever: she had cancer. A type of blood cancer called Follicular lymphoma. It was agreed that the "watch and wait" approach would be used in this early stage since Krystal didn’t yet have symptoms.
In May 2017, things took a turn for the worse. Krystal was experiencing horrible back pain which was getting worse by the day. An ultrasound discovered an orange sized tumor near her bladder. One week later, a CT scan revealed this tumor was growing rapidly. Krystal was rushed to the Victoria cancer clinic where it was determined that her cancer had progressed into large B cell NH lymphoma high grade. This, understandably, was not the news they were hoping for. It was recommended that she begin chemotherapy treatment immediately.
Krystal is now more than half way through her chemotherapy treatments. She will have to make several trips to Vancouver and Victoria as most of the specialized testing can only be done in these areas. The cost of travel adds up. There is also the added, unexpected cost of pricey medication, which isn’t covered and can only be paid out of pocket. To top it all off, in early June, Krystal’s mom was diagnosed with bone cancer. As you can only imagine, these past few months have been extremely difficult for Krystal and her family.
Through all of these incredibly difficult struggles, Krystal has shown herself to be a true warrior. Her faith is solid. Her courage is admirable. Her beauty shines through everything. She places her trust and her hope in the One and only Truth, Way and Life; Jesus Christ.
Krystal and James are people who have solid family values. They have huge hearts and are always helping others. They give so much of themselves. And now it’s time for them to be blessed by us!
