The one-hour documentary will follow the brief history of why the nation now known as the United States of America owes its once enslaved citizens and their descendants. Both the federal and many [if not all] state governments, corporations, and American citizens participated in the institution of slavery or some form of oppressive legal and illegal practice that specifically targeted the African American’s progress. Without redress, the wealth gap, health care, prosperity, land acquisition, job participation, job creation, home stability, and the pursuit of the American dream will only be an American nightmare.

Often debated, what is currently on record is the first African slaves arrived on the shores of America in 1619. Stolen from their homelands, people of African descent not only lost land, they lost their language, customs, values and were forced thru European ideology and religion to prescribe to a chattel existence. On the voyage of no return, African people were raped and disease ran rampant on the ships due to unsanitary conditions. Some slaves tried and did commit suicide.

The fight and advocacy for reparations has a long history starting with the likes of the great Callie House, Frederick Douglass, and the establishment of the Freedmen's Bureau. Later, others like Queen Mother Moore would pick up the mantle along with organizations such as NCobra, the DOAS, and the #ADOS Movement.

Reparations could have been addressed but was and has been evaded to present. After the Civil War and so-called Reconstruction Era, General William T. Sherman presented Special Field Order 15 that would give 40 acres, a mule, and economic empowerment to the once enslaved persons yet it was later revoked by then-President Andrew Johnson.

In 2016, over 1.18 million immigrants and approximately 10.5 million unauthorized immigrants who voluntarily arrived in the United States of America, often aren’t taught and are ignorant of the forced migration of the African people who built this country and believe that all people in America can make it while many Black Americans remain at the bottom class.

The documentary will explore how Japanese Americans, Native Americans, and Jews from the German Holocaust received repair from the United States Government directly and indirectly.

There are currently some statewide initiatives like AB 3121 in California which has established a task force to study reparations as well as on the city level in Evanston, Illinois under Resolution 126-R-19, “Establishing the City of Evanston Reparations Fund and the Reparations Subcommittee.” Yet, on a Federal level HR40, the bill to create a task force to study reparations for African Americans has been at a standstill for over 30 years.

Throughout this journey, we will be interviewing individuals who have been on the frontline of reparations and those who have been in support.

It’s time America pays this outstanding debt (plus interest) for the most egregious sin a nation can commit. All donations big and small are greatly appreciated and instrumental in helping us to complete this groundbreaking documentary work.
