On November 8th around 5 a.m, my wife was on her way home from work but unbeknownst to her she wouldn't make it home that night.  She was cut off by a semi truck on the tollway.  All she remembered were the sparks and holding onto the steering wheel for dear life, "I just didn't want to get sucked out of the window" is what she told me at the hospital.  When she hit the ditch the vehicle rolled several times ejecting her from the car.    When the state trooper arrived and grabbed her hand, all she said was "please don't leave me I don't want to die alone" he never left her side.
She was then rushed to Presence Mercy Hospital emergency room in Aroura, were they assessed her injuries.  She suffered a major laceration on her forehead, multiple facial fractures , ten out of the twelve vertebrae in her Thoracic are fractured, four broken ribs, both lungs punctured, a lacerated liver, road rash down her left arm, and more lacerations on her left shin and right big toe which is also broken. They  stitched her lacerations up and told me that with the severe trauma to her spine that they will have to transport her to Good Samaritan hospital in Downers Grove.  She was transported by ambulance and was admitted to the Critical Care Unit for three days.  She is going to be confined in a back brace for at least three months and if the brace doesn't work, she will need back surgery.  After staying there for six days we finally got to bring her home.  Well, not home but back to my parents where she can get 24hr care.  She has to have nurses come to the house three times a week to check up on her and do physical therapy.
She's extremely lucky to be with us today, but if you were to tell her that she would beg to differ.  With bills piling up from our wedding July 22nd,  just finishing her Masters degree program in August, and now this accident leaving her unable to work, stress is fighting to get the best of her.  I try to be her rock and let her know that everything is going to be ok, we're going to make it through this.  Truthfully, I'm not sure how we're going to do this, we're already living on my check week to week.  I have missed work to be by her side while she was in critical care.  I have been working as much as I can, so I can at least make the minimum payments on our bills.  With only my income, I am afraid that I will fail on my promise and let the only women that matters to me down.
On the morning of November 19th, we were back in the ER for uncontrollable bleeding from her nose, where they had to put a rhino packing into each nostril, which from the sound of her cries, are very painful. They have now admitted her back into the critical care unit, and are saying  she will be here for five days before the packing can be removed, so at least we'll be coming home on Thanksgiving.
The rhino pack in her right nostril failed this morning.  To stop the bleeding they had to take out the first packing and replace it with a larger one that pinches off the blood vessels in the lower and upper nasal passage making it even more uncomfortable.  There was a lot of blood loss before they could get it stopped, she needed two units of blood.  They're going to be taking her to intervention radiation soon, so they can try to get the bleeding to stop by embolizing  the main arteries in her nose.
That's all I know for know and I'll keep everyone updated as things progress.  The donations you make  will help with the numerous hospital bills from many days in critical care.  It will  also help lift my beautiful wife's spirits, help show her that we will make it through this, and show her that she isn't a burden on us because we have the loving support of the good hearted people in this world.
