Greetings Friends,
My name is Tony Scott and I am seeking your assistance in establishing a non-profit business entity that will provide resources to low-income African-American high school and entering college students in greater Cleveland and the surrounding communities, offering essential assistance needed to become academically successful. These resources would include, but not be limited to, laptop computers, funds for ACT and/or SAT test preparation courses and/or the courses themselves, scholarships, college application fees and school supplies.
I graduated from Shaw High School in East Cleveland, Ohio. Upon graduation I served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years, which included participation in Gulf War operations such as Desert Storm and Desert Shield. I began my college education while in the military. Upon my honorable discharge, I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in English. I was the first member of my immediate family to graduate from college. I then obtained my Master’s Degree in Public Administration, and ultimately, my Law Degree.
Being the first member of my family to graduate from college, I learned a lot of what it took to accomplish this task through trial and error and with the guidance of friends, mentors, professors, guidance counselors, my fraternity (the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.) and last, but far from least, the church. I sought scholarships, grants and loans through existing programs in the school and the community at large. Through the Grace of God and all those persons and entities previously mentioned, I was able to achieve my educational goals. Again, I want to help our youth achieve those goals, hopefully, with far less trial and error than I did.
I need your assistance in obtaining the initial funds necessary to establish this Non-Profit entity which includes registering the business as an Ohio entity and completing the non-profit entity application. Further, these funds will allow me to host an inaugural event that would provide students entering into colleges and universities in the 2015 fall semester with laptops, scholarships and trunks with essential items, such as toiletries, study aids, notebooks and non-perishable food items. In preparation for students in the fall 2016 semester and thereafter, I will continue to seek donations, establish partnerships and obtain grants that will accomplish these goals. For now, however, I need your assistance in getting this non-profit established so as to make an improvement of these students’ lives.
