Care for Cody

Donation protected
Hello, I have created this go fund me to help my dear friend Suzette Garling and her amazing family.  I have known Suzette and her family since my daughter Alyson was in high school. Her older son and Aly were in the same graduating class; also Suzette is my awesome hairdresser! Suzette is an incredible mom, over the years that I have known the Garling family  I have had the pleasure of witnessing how dedicated they are to each other and how strongly they love each other. Suzette and her husband Don are truly some of the most dedicated parents I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and yes, learning from.

However,  at this time this beautiful family is being tested in a way that no family should have too.   Suzette and Don’s youngest son, Cody was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia with Philadelphia Positive Chromosome in February, 2016.  At the time, Cody was a senior at Pacifica High School and should have been preparing to graduate, but instead he spent countless nights in CHOC hospital receiving treatments which caused him to suffer from many side effects.  But Cody is a strong and determined young man, he continued his studies to graduate in the hospital and at home and miraculously the doctors allowed him to attend his graduation with his class that June! Since that time Cody continued to receive treatments and was doing incredibly well.  They were beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Recently he was coming to the end of his “maintenance” chemo treatments, when everything changed. Cody started suffering from terrible headaches and just a few days after what was supposed to be one of his final chemo treatments they received terrible news that the Leukemia was back.  This time the tests showed that it is located in his spinal and brain fluid.

Cody has been in the hospital ever since this happened a month ago.  His doctors have decided that they must attack aggressively. The doctors are currently trying to decide which direction to take, either a bone marrow transplant or something called a CAR t cell transplant.  No matter which direction they go Cody still must be prepped for the procedure, which means he is currently getting chemo every Tuesday administered through a lumbar puncture, as well as daily chemo pills. He will remain in the hospital for the foreseeable future as he undergoes all the prepping necessary and ultimately the procedure. One positive in all of this is that Cody’s older brother Cristian is a 100% match for a bone marrow transplant if the doctors decide to go in that direction.

Suzette has been with Cody since the day he was admitted and has barely left his side.  Both Suzette and Don work family ran businesses and unfortunately Suzette has not been able to open her salon during this time and this has added financial strain to there list of stresses.  Don has been working hard to keep the family afloat, but it is becoming increasingly difficult.

I know that asking others for help is something that this family truly did not want to do, so I am doing it for them.  Any small donation can make a world of difference. Lets help these parents be able to spend as much time with their son as possible.  Let's show them in this time of so much uncertainty, that we can shower them with love and support. Please share this with your family and friends, let's spread it far and wide. I know many who will read this are Garden Grove residents and GGUSD alumni, let's show them what our community can do and support a fellow neighbor and former student.

In closing I would like to ask that you keep the Garlings in your prayers as they face the next few months.

Thank you all for your love and support.
