I have 3 adult children, and all of us are on Medicaid. If not for Medicaid, we would have run out of resources long ago. My son has a serious medical condition that makes it hard for him to work. Starting next year, when Medicaid includes work requirements (In Michigan), he might have no health coverage at all. We need to address his medical issues this year, so he can continue to work, and keep his Medicaid next year.
Unfortunately, his condition is completely undiagnosed. We've seen dozens of doctors and specialists, and they don't know what it is or how to treat it. Meantime he can hardly eat, due to intestinal pain and cramping. He's starving to death in a sea of plenty. We are still searching for answers, but Medicaid has reached its annual cap, so we have to pay for everything ourselves. It is very hard to predict the costs of the testing and treatment.
Without a diagnosis, we can't apply for SSI or SSDI. Those programs, and others, require specific medical documentation, and are unavailable to us. It's a difficult situation.
The Center for American Progress made a professional video of our family, and I can't improve on that. It's a good way to get to know us. Please view that video if you haven't already, then return to this page.
The video doesn't include my son, and doesn't explicitly describe his medical conditions, because we want to respect his privacy. However, his condition is serious, as described above, and it sends him to the ER regularly. He can't eat, and is losing weight. Any help would be appreciated.
