Hi, my name is Cielo and this beautiful bald lady in the picture is my one and only sister Carina. She is one of the most responsible and selfless people I know. Being the eldest, she used to take care of me and my two other siblings growing up. We were born eleven years apart but we are the closest. Even when I moved to the U.S. nine years ago we always found time to update each other and talk on a daily basis. She lives in the Philippines with my elderly parents and takes care of all of their needs. Being away from my family is one of the hardest things I’ve had to endure and I thank her for taking on the responsibility of caring for our parents.
Last April she was diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer (IDC-Invasive Ductal Carcinoma). She has already undergone eight Chemotherapy sessions and may have to undergo two or three more to decrease the size of the tumor prior to Mastectomy. Then another four to five more rounds of Chemotherapy after the operation followed by Radiation.
My sister is single and a small business owner, she also doesn’t have Health Insurance. Now not only do my parents have to help take care of the business, they also have to take care of her. My two siblings and I are doing our very best to help out financially, but cancer treatments prove to be very costly, especially since everything is out of pocket. We have to pay for every single Chemotherapy session, Tests, Ultrasounds, CSF shots, Doctors Fees and the list goes on. Our funds are almost depleted and she hasn’t even gotten the Mastectomy yet. On top of all the pain and hardship that this disease brings, I know she is under a lot of stress and she worries about where to get the funds to help her continue with the treatment.
It has always been extremely hard for our family to ask for help or rely on others but I took a leap of faith and decided to start this campaign in order to relieve at least one worry from my sister and parents’ minds.
