My brother, Elias Johnson is a real-life hero. Early Friday morning, July 22nd,  while we were all asleep, he saved the life of a female police officer being attacked by a suspect she was called to apprehend. He said that he couldn't just sit there and not do anything so he ran to her aid. As he wrestled the suspect to the ground and pinned him down, he asked the officer to hold the suspect's legs, but she was too wounded and winded to assist. He looked down at his leg that was obviously broken during the scuffle and knew something wasn't right with it. Even in severe pain, my brother held the suspect down until officer back-up arrived. There's no doubt in my mind that if he had not jumped in when he did, that officer would not have made it. Today, July 28th, almost a week later, he had surgery to insert 1 plate and 7 screws into his leg and ankle that were broken in four places. We are grateful to God for a successful surgery, and we solicit your continued prayers for a thorough recovery process.

As my brother and my sister-in-law await approval for assistance, the medical bills are piling up after the surgery, and their savings account is gradually depleting in the process.  In addition, my sister-in-law will be taking off time from work to care for my brother until he returns to work in 12 weeks thanks to the FMLA. Unfortunately, her work leave is not paid so that is an additional loss of income for their family of 5.  Several of you have asked how you can help or if we have set an account up, and that is amazing!

As much as he wants to keep it quiet, I can't allow him to go unrecognized for his heroic act Friday morning. He put his life in danger to save someone else, and I could not be any prouder of him. I'm even more proud of him, because in a societal climate as unto the one we are currently experiencing where the tension between civilians and officers is at an all-time high, my brother's heart appealed to humanity when his eyes could have easily seen the hue of a uniform and looked the other way. So proud of my real-life action hero, and I'm so grateful to God that He's in the business of protecting and covering us even when we don't realize that we need it.

Please feel free to give as you are moved to do so.  Any and every amount contributed to this fund is a blessing, and I pray that God restores to you one hundred fold what you have shared with my family!
