We Need Your Support!
We need YOUR help to build a proprietary, fully-customized software platform for MyHealthMentor.org! After a six month soft launch during which we purchased licenses from a 3rd party, the overwhelmingly positive response has validated the need for an Online Health Mentorship Platform in the United States. MyHealthMentor believes that developing its own software will not only significantly reduce its long-term expenditures and create lasting value for the organization, but also provide a far superior experience for our users.
What is MyHealthMentor's Mission?
Our objective is simple: to connect individuals diagnosed with health conditions with mentors who have faced a similar health challenge and would like to share their experience to help improve another life. Myhealthmentor.org will offer a free, confidential, user-friendly platform where members are invited to select their specific health condition, share their expectations and goals for mentorship, and receive a customized Mentor/Mentee pairing. Each member will be able to view active mentorships, communicate with the other individual (via on-screen video or text chat), and view a log of past activities and future milestones.
Why Health Mentorship?
Individuals with a health condition of any type often feel helpless, hopeless and alone. However, there are individuals out there who have been experiencing that exact same condition for weeks, months or years and have developed the skills and strategies to not only cope with, but also excel at and even overcome health challenges.
By applying the concept of mentorship to the health field, mentees benefit from the experiences and expertise of their peers, and mentors derive satisfaction from being able to make a difference in the life of another person experiencing the same condition.
Tarick's Story
For 11 years, I lived with two mental health conditions that I kept a secret out of the fear of being stigmatized. I felt like I was alone and that no one could understand what I was truly feeling. Eventually, I was properly diagnosed and realized the importance of interacting with those facing similar conditions when I attended a help group. I found a way to significantly improve my life through writing, meditation and professional help.
Last year, a friend who runs a youth mental health program introduced me to an individual facing the same mental health challenges. After hearing from the individual how instrumental my support was in improving his life (and wishing that the same support had been available to me years earlier), I began to wonder why Health Mentorship was not more common or accessible.
So my wife and I came up with the idea to create a non-profit organization dedicated solely to Health Mentorship and helping others facing health challenges.
