Help Us Bring Tristan Home

Donation protected
On Friday, February 6th at 4:23pm a beautiful baby boy was born into this world, Tristan James Tao Soto.

About two weeks before his birth, my brother and his girlfriend were faced with an incredibly difficult decision to place their son for adoption. Wanting to ensure their son stayed in the family, they reached out to me and my husband asking if we would be willing to adopt their son. Without hesitation and with love and open arms, my husband and I have accepted this wonderful opportunity in creating an open adoption. I flew from Massachusetts to Oregon the day before his birth and have since been staying in Oregon until I can take Tristan home.

Tristan was born at 37 weeks with a club foot and down syndrome and is the sweetest little baby you have ever met. After 5 years of trying to have children of our own, my husband and I were blessed with a beautiful daughter who is now 16 and will be a senior in high school. For the last 7 years, we have been intensive care foster parents and we have raised our daughter and our foster kids in a loving and caring environment. We always wanted a big family but our struggles with infertility allowed us one child and we have now been blessed with this opportunity to add this wonderful little boy to our family with our daughter who is so excited to be a big sister. Our family is over-the-moon in love with Tristan and we feel so fortunate to be given this opportunity.

We are in process of securing his adoption and given the short timeline we have had to work with, we have come to learn that the cost of this adoption is much more than we anticipated with legal fees, adoption agency fees, and home study fees totaling an estimated amount of $15,000. We would have never imagined that the upfront costs of adopting our own family member would be so high.

Tristan was placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit a few hours after he was born due to respiratory and feeding issues. He has made amazing progress and is close to being discharged. It has been heart wrenching to be separated from my husband and daughter during this complex and emotional process, but I am unwilling to leave until I can bring Tristan home.

This is a difficult ask for us to make, but we are determined to get through this with our new bundle of joy. Every little bit helps bring us closer to bringing him home.
