My girl, Jo

Dear Friends,

Joey and I are asking for your help. My dog and my best companion in life has suffered a traumatic accident and I am turning to my community to ask for support.

On Saturday evening, we were out on a walk and she was hit by a reckless driver on our street. I had her off-leash a few meters ahead of me and the driver sped off before I was able to react.  We went to the emergency hospital immediately, where she has been ever since. Her right leg is completely dislocated from her hip and she had cuts on her abdomen and front legs, but it could have been much worse, I was prepared for worse and am just incredibly thankful she is alive. Thats said, what sort of life and mobility she’ll have, we are not certain.
Three different veterinarians have tried unsuccessfully to put the leg back into the hip with a 'closed reduction' or by just using brute force, which doesn’t necessitate surgery. After a couple consultations with those veterinarians and now a veterinary surgeon, I’ve learned that an operation by a surgeon will be necessary for her to walk again.

Those of you that have met Joey know that she is an unbelievably intelligent, beautiful and caring being. Also, if you know her than you must also know that she is truly my best friend, closest companion, and favorite therapist. She adds infinite value to my life, a life I can’t imagine without her. Seeking surgery for her is the only way to preserve some amount of her mobility so she can still engage in the activities that she loves most: hiking, camping, viciously killing rats, chasing squirrels, and circus tricks. She’s been my constant through thick and thin, is always there for me, and gives everyone around her complete and unconditional love. I love her more than words can describe.
Because what Joey offers me is priceless, I chose to move forward with the operation, despite its total cost of over $6,000.00. This is a cost I am prepared to undertake on my own, but I am also reaching out for help because while I am choosing this for Joey, the burden is still enormous. Humbly, self-consciously, and nervously I am looking to see if my community should desire to donate to the cost of the procedure, as well. I am without expectation and full of gratitude to anyone that would even consider giving. Every contribution, no matter the value would be such a comfort and help. If this is something uncomfortable, please know that in my heart, I am grateful for even just healing thoughts, shared words of appreciation for Joey, a picture you might have taken of her, or a fond memory you have of her
