"MyFunPortA" Workers Relief Fund

Donation protected
Wednesday, August 23rd we all joined together at the Corpus Christi Hooks game to celebrate the amazing summer we had all had--a tradition our owners have kept going for years to show their appreciation for their employees--kegs were tapped, laughs were had and people conspired on their "hurricane" plans--where they would go if the news turned sour and Harvey decided to come directly towards Port Aransas. "Nahhh...it'll hook off somewhere else, just you watch.." some old-timers joked.

Come Thursday afternoon, less than 24 hours later, we were all put under a mandatory evacuation. We scrambled to shutter windows, sandbag houses, secure belongings and pets and send frantic text messages asking where everyone was headed. "Do you have a safe spot? Did you get out?" A normal 3-hour trip to austin took 6. People flocked to San Antonio and central Texas and waited. We were scattered.

By Friday, it was imminent. Harvey was hitting the Coastal Bend--and HARD. Within hours it was upgraded to a Category 4. We waited with our breaths held to see the damage come morning. And it was catastrophic.

This fund is set up to take at least a little bit of panic off of the shoulders of our workers. A lot of them lost their houses and all of their worldly possessions. Some (but very few) were left unscathed but still without work. As our owners scramble to secure their own homes and get their businesses up and running--we really don't know what the future holds, as Port Aransas depends solely on tourism and it doesn't look like there will be much of that in the coming months.

FEMA and the Red Cross (and can we all say a little hell f**kin yeah for HEB?!?) and all of our neighbors across Texas have been great with their material donations and we are not ungrateful, however we have no source of income, no way to buy gas for our generators, etc. and are just asking for a little bit more help to pay our bills until we get back on our feet.

Our owners are an absolutely fantastic local couple who own six businesses on the island (link down below) and ALL proceeds will go to their workers that were hit hardest until we are able to gather our things and rejoin our work family--because that's what we are. Family.

(My name is Shannon Turner and I live and work in the coastal bend as one of the managers at "The Brewery"-- I will personally withdraw the funds and be in charge of distributing the funds--which will be in the form of HEB and gas gift cards which I will give in person to our employees who need it the most and will post updates)

Thank You!!!
