Hi! My name is Leah and I'm a year 12 student from the regional town Parkes in NSW.
Recently I've been accepted into a globally recognised camp and prestigious organisation, famous for it's groundbreaking research in particle physics and scientific discoveries (the CERN-Solvay Student Camp in Geneva, Switzerland). As the only Australian out of around 30 spots and 2500 applicants from 120 countries (the largest group to apply yet!), I was selected to attend this amazing opportunity.
I have always had a passion for science (and many other things), and through this opportunity I'm looking to inspire young people and women in regional areas who want to pursue STEM, and anything they put their mind to. This passion has also been one of my greatest challenges. Countless times have I questioned my abilities in STEM, doubting if I’m fit for a career in it; however this camp will give me the opportunity to explore this passion and pursue one of my oldest dreams.
Unfortunately, costs for transport, insurance, accommodation in transit, and other travel expenses are extremely pricey; with a single flight ticket from Australia being around $2, 800 alone. Living in a regional area away from major airlines also contributes to this cost. With the camp ending 5 days before my final HSC exams, any possible money that is not spent would go straight into my university savings. Any contributions towards this goal would be greatly appreciated; thank you so much for all your support. (:
