Hello friends,
As most of you know the costs of trans affirming healthcare, are enormously extensive even after private health insurance is in place. The out of pocket expenses for accessing these healthcare services are in excess of $16000. As someone who lives with chronic pain, fatigue, and complex trauma, this goal is very inaccessible.
As I continue to transition it is so important for me to experience my body in alignment with who I am. Some of those changes are already happening through hormone replacement therapy, which has given me the beginning glimpses of comfort and confidence that I've never had before. I can only imagine the relief and euphoria that will change my life after facial feminisation surgery.
From childhood my gender identity was so intensely suppressed due to the trauma of sexual assault. The trauma continues to be relieved as I embrace my gender in spite of being shamed and blamed for the abuse, for being 'feminine' and 'girly'. This has been the most difficult obstacle and mental health issue for me. One of the most effective ways to overcome trauma is to do that which the PTSD makes us scared to do. In my case, having the body and expression that I feel in genuine to me, is one of the most important aspects.
