My sister and her husband need a little help. Here are the circumstances in her own words. Know this, it is very hard for these folks to ask, but this is exactly the kind of thing this service was made for.
"In 2013 I was taken out of work by my doctors due to major gastric issues. I have since been diagnosed with Chronic Pancreatitis, Chrohns and Colitis. I have been waiting to receive my court date for disability for over a year now and my surgery is being put on hold for now, because of our circumstances. My husband Pat was my caregiver on top of working, even taking all the extra overtime he could get. He is a great husband and father. In the past month he has been hospitalized twice at the V.A. here in Syracuse, he is a Vietnam vet. Pat suffered a massive heart attack on June 3rd, this is his second heart attack, he had one about 10 years ago. The doctors were able to put 3 stents in him however, he needs bypass surgery, as his heart is only working at 30%. The surgery has to be performed in Buffalo, because they don't do open heart surgery at the V.A. in Syracuse.
The V.A. in Buffalo does not have anyplace for the spouse to stay for free, but they do offer a discounted rate at a nearby hotel. Pat will be in the hospital for 4-5 nights. With the discount it is still about $100.00 a night. This is going to be a very risky surgery according to the doctors. Right now we are living on his short term disability which in all honesty is $680.00 a month, the maximum you are allowed. The doctors have already told him he would not be able to work, in his profession ever again and that he will have to retire and collect disability. His recovery is going to be 8 months and short term disability doesn't last that long. Any help would be very much appreciated."
