MY SHEPHERD group formed on June 20th, the week after the Grenfell Tower fire. We are a support group, for anyone affected by the tragedy. We meet weekly, Wednesday evenings, from 6-730pm at MCWG community centre, at the bottom of Trellick Tower. We are a much needed group operating on the ground NOW.
We employ 2 experienced psychotherapists (CVs on request) to facilitate the weekly group, one of whom is Arabic speaking, and the other is a well respected American trauma specialist, and writer on the subject, and a secretary present every week, who is a Muslim integrative counsellor, who has been closely affected by the fire.
We are not connected with any organisation, but are working alongside a small local charity The Kensington Trust, who have similar goals and have been outreaching to many of the same families, through their charity work, for the last 6 years.
Our 3 support groups, to date, have been well received and grown in numbers exponentially.
We aim to plan for 2 phases.
Phase 1 - the support group, meeting every Wednesday evening for the next 6 months , and the incurred costs of this.
Phase 2 - Raising funds or receiving monies from the official bodies that we are applying to, to facilitate and pay for, one on one therapy for those attendees of our group, who need more. We are building a database of appropriate local therapists , concurrently.
A conservative estimate of the group costs for 6 months is £16,000. This includes renumerating one psychotherapist each week, 1 admin person for 8hrs a week , 1 young girl to watch the kids during group and sundries (tea, biscuits, paper and colouring pens for kids), plus a weekly donation to The Community centre at Trellick tower.
Please give if you feel moved to. We are aware that most of you have already given, but are hoping that as this is a group that is working now, that you may feel like being generous again.
Thank you so much.
