While I was patrolling, an officer had stated on the radio that there was a dog on the side of the casino road leaving Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino.

I came pulling up hoping the damage wasn't so serious, but my poor Shayla was injured and seemed to be suffering from a broken hip. She was just laying there, probably thinking we were going to put her down like those that wished it. I want to give her a fighting chance and exhaust my resources before making the ultimate decision.

So my coworker and I used a rifle case as a stretcher to load her up in my patrol unit.

I waited for my husband to get off work so we could transfer her to my personal vehicle..

My husband and I began the next task by transferring her to the back of our personal truck, hoping she wouldn't bite us. Shayla was tired from the moving.

The presence of compassion and humanity within these agencies can ignite hope, revealing the true meaning behind the oath we swore to uphold. I would like to give Shayla a fighting chance that she deserves.

The funds will be used to pay for her hospitalization, cover surgery, and the after care.
