My Sepsis Journey

Hello, my name is Stacey. On June 14th I underwent surgery which included a hysterectomy, appendectomy, endometrial removal, and many other procedures involving my bowel, colon, and urinary track. The procedure took over an hour longer than expected. I was sent home feeling sore, obviously, but all seemed well.

 

The next Tuesday I started running a low temp and had some very severe pain. By Wednesday night my fever was high and unmanageable and I was in the worst pain of my life. When my partner,David, returned from work Thursday morning he found me on the living room floor and rushed me to the hospital. At the hospital I was diagnosed with a pelvic abcess and sepsis. The scariest thing in the world is having a doctor say you are critical.

 

I was taken by ambulance to another hospital where I was pumped full of antibiotics and a drainage tube was placed. After being home less than three days later I was back at the hospital with early signs of pneumonia.

 

This has been a harrowing journey for my entire family. And it had been a humbling experience for me. Having to depend on someone else for the simplest things, such as dressing and washing. I still have a long road to complete recovery, doing a little bit each day, but I'll get there.

 

This illness has also affected my family emotionally, mentally and financially. With transportation costs to and from doctors, prescription co-pays, and David's lost time at work. I humbly ask for your help in anyway, even if it is just sharing this campaign. This request doesn't come easy to me and I appreciate all your support.
