Rally for Steve's Future

Donation protected
On a Friday night, 23 years ago, I had just arrived to my parents house in Orlando from Tallahassee.  My brother and I had been going to college together in Tallahassee and I had come home to visit my parents while he stayed back.  At 2am we received a call that would forever change our family.

My brother Steve had been shot in a senseless act of road rage.  He was shot point blank in left side of his face where the bullet entered his jaw, ricocheted off the bone and severed his spinal chord at C5-C6. In an instant on October 29,1994, my brother was a quadriplegic.

23 years later, Steve is still receiving constant care from my retired parents because of his quadriplegia and Type-1 Diabetes.  Though my parents have cared so well for him all these years, they are getting older and Steve’s needs require a more sustainable option.

The time has come for us to find a long term care solution for Steve and his canine companion, Olsen.  Steve has lived the majority of his daily life within his room and my parent’s home.  He deserves to open a new chapter for himself.  Steve needs some independence and my parents need to be relieved of the 24/7 care they’ve been giving him for 23 years.

Steve is swarming in debt from hospital and other medical bills and he needs a new wheelchair, and much more Physical Therapy to gain more independence.  This also includes paying for equipment to help him strengthen his body.

October 29,1994 may have changed our lives forever, but I don’t want the suffering to continue for Steve and my parents as they get older.  My parents deserve to live their golden years without the burden of 24/7 care for Steve. Steve deserves to start a new chapter with more independence in a full-care home where he can receive quality care.

This will be a big challenge for our family, financially.  The purpose of this is to create some options for Steve.  I want to reach out to friends, family and anyone able or willing to consider donating to this cause.  Any donation is immensely appreciated by myself, Steve and my parents.
