My Parent’s need for a Healthy Home

So I would normally never ask for help, but this situation is extremely important for the health and well being of my parents.

Five years ago, the wind storm in Nov of 2015 struck tragedy on my parents house. A huge tree fell on top of the home leaving four gaping holes in the roof. Our insurance company did not get our house fixed until April 2016. This had caused a Bed Bug problem that nobody was aware of until after we returned to our home once it had been fixed. As soon as this was discovered, I told my father the severity of the situation and he didn’t grasp the problem. I told him he needed to get rid of the problem and how to solve it but he refused to believe it was an issue. I believe this is due to his financial state and also his old age. He didn’t want to face the fact that the issue had to be dealt with. I had to move out of the house because I could not be living in that kind of environment. Since that day, I have been trying to make him understand that he needs to get it handled, but he is 78 years old, living off of military retirement and disability with limited funds. This has been emotionally damaging for the whole family because we can’t just go visit them whenever we want. Their grandkids don’t get to see them. Holidays have been distant and I can’t remember the last time I hugged my parents. I constantly cry about this because I don’t want these parasites to diminish their health.

For years I have been bringing this situation up to my dad with hopes that he would accept that this issue needs to be addressed. He has finally accepted the help, 5 years later. My sister, brother, and I have been quoted the price for a full extermination and that alone is $2000. In order to fully fix the problem, we also need to get them new furniture, carpeting, and clothing. (They haven’t had new clothes in over 10 years) Also, we would need to cover the cost of putting them in a hotel for the time being while the house is being treated. Also, we want to pay for professional cleaners to completely deep clean the house after it has been treated. In addition, we want to ensure their house stays clean with semi annual spraying and weekly cleanings from an assisted living program. Our parents are elderly, and even though my dad can provide for my mom, he needs help maintaining his home. We are young adults with our own families and children to take care of and we could use any donations to help take care of our parents. Also, if you know of any resources that can help us do this affordably, we are willing to take any kind of help we can get. Thank you.
