Recovering medical and living costs for my mother

Donation protected
***OCT 2020 EDIT: I can't not thank enough everyone who has supported us in the past 5-6 months. Truly you all deserve the world and once everything gets back to normal; I hope to someday soon give back to you all in some way or fashion.
However, we still need to raise another 25K -- I've been straining myself to the point of not eating or sleeping just to make these payments towards the surgery bill, medical insurance, my mom's physical therapy recovery, and rent and food. Please share this where ever you can! I was able to reduce total costs with financial assistance from the hospital, churches, etc, promoted tweets on twitter, but it's still not enough. I need a final push. I want to be done with this and rest.

Hello Everyone. I hope you're all keeping safe, happy and healthy in these trying times. My name is Aly Grunder, and everything I do in life is tied to trying to make the world a more positive, happier, and safer place. Even within my dreams of being one of the youngest filmmakers in the film industry, social activism, etc, those principles remain to be my primary drive. In the end, I just want to help my family so they can continue living a comfortable life.

Beside me and those principles is a woman who has worked extremely hard to get where she is. My mother and I are quite similar; the drive to help people and change things for the better. She became a nurse at a young age upon witnessing disgusting mistreatment of patients within the medical field. She wanted to be that change. On top of that, on her own, she has taken me and my sisters and raised us well, and set an example of greatness to strive for.

And still. From time to time, we struggle. For the longest time, my mother has been the strongest support for our immediate family. She has worked for too long--30+ long years of physical, mental, and emotional strain. Over time as I grew up, I began to notice some of the physical problems that my mother began developing. And now it has escalated to this. She has developed a slipped/bulging disc at the base of her spine due to a herniation along with arthritis.

In 2018, she was given a shot that would only temporarily quell the swelling of the herniation, along with undergoing a laminectomy procedure(cover photo is a photo of my mother after the successful procedure). However, as of recent, she is unable stand for extended periods of time without the lower half of her body going completely numb; rendering her being unable to walk at all, and since has been not working at all since April 2020. This is quite concerning as my younger sister, who recently turned 16, is still in school and still needs support as she graduates and eventually heads to college. Unfortunately, my mother will be needing another surgery, specifically Lumbar Spinal Fusion surgery; and even then, she won't be able to work for another 6 months after the procedure, which is scheduled a week or so from now.

The GoFundMe goal is a rough estimation of a single-level posterior lumbar fusion and any other hospital bills that might be applicable as we haven't gotten an official quote on how much it will be; not including that my mom will most likely be getting a double/two-level fusion. And I really really hate asking for help, but even with all that I could do, I don't think I or my older sister could do enough as it'll be a fight to stay afloat, but if there is a chance to not be drowned in bills along with trying to sustain ourselves with all that's happening in the world right now, we could really use the support. I'm trying to avoid the reality of us not being able to pay necessities like rent and food which would result in us eventually becoming hungry and homeless. And even if we don't meet the goal, I will absolutely be forever grateful and relieved if we can get through this without any problems, and you can count on me giving back to you all and to the world in some way or form in the future!

My mother means everything to me right now and that's all that's been on my mind right now; no donation is too small and literally everything helps no matter what, even sharing the link to this story.

I will be giving periodical updates to this gofundme including the surgery date, photos and the quote/final bill for the surgery and hospital charges. Thank you with the fire of ten suns if you read this all the way to the end, and thank you for being by my side.

Thank you,

~Aly
