My Mom Got Shot In The Head

Donation protected
My mom Ricarda Parra, whom I was named after, was shot by her ex-boyfriend on January 16th 2018. She knew and helped this man throughout a thirteen year timespan. They began their relationship in November of 2017. It wasn't long before her started to show signs of jealousy and insecurity. On January 15th 2018 he accused my mom of cheating. She attempted to reassure him that she was not, only to be met with vulgarity. She realized that the problems this man had were internal, and that she could not help him anymore than he was willing to help himself. She ended the relationship that night. He then spent the majority of his night threatening her. My mom kept my little sisters 6yrs and 9yrs and myself form school the morning of January 16th 2018. She took us to stay with a local relative while she worked on getting us out of town. She wanted to ensure our safety before reporting this man, just incase his ignorant friends attempted to finish what he started. She left my sisters and I at around 3pm that day. She gave us all hugs and kisses and insured that she would be back soon. My mom never came back that night. about 45 minutes after she had left her ex had found her and attempted to kill her. She had been sitting unsuspecting in the passenger seat of our parked car. He shot at her from behind. She was struck in the left back side of her head and grazed on the top part of her left arm. She never lost consciousness, so she is able to give clear details of what took place. She made sure to call our caretaker, to tell him to take care of my sisters and I and that she loved us. The coward that tried to kill my mom was arrested in January 17th 2018. My mom spent three days with the 0.38 caliber bullet lodged in her skull before it was surgically removed and a plate was placed on January 19th 2018. She called us every chance she got, but she was very weak and tired. She did her best to keep a cheerful demeanor for my sisters and I, so not to worry us. My sisters and I didn't get to see my mom until the 23rd of January. It was at this visit that my sisters found out why our mom was in the hospital. They now have separation anxiety. They worry whenever my mom leaves home. My mom is healing well considering the circumstances. She has remained as strong as ever for my sisters and I. She keeps and smile on her face and tries to find the silver lining in this situation.

My mom is a single parent and the rock of our household. She was working two jobs just to keep our family afloat prior to this incident. She has been a caregiver for 10yrs and has always been one to help where she can. She had a rough upbringing and changed her life to insure that my sisters and I have a better chance than she did. She pushes herself, because she knows that we need her strength. So even through the healing process, the loss of our car (because its being held as evidence) and her loss of income due to her inability to work, she keeps a positive attitude, and works little by little to sharpen her skills and strengthen her body in hopes of getting back to work as soon as possible.

We thank and appreciate all that have donated and/or shared our gofundme. please continue to share. Our family is in a financial crisis, and the friends of the man that did this have been stalking and harassing us. we have moved since the original incident. My mom has been followed home by them, and these cowards have also parked outside of our home on multiple occasions. My mom has been told to file a police report every time this occurs. No further arrests have been made yet.         http://www.kvoa.com/story/37354172/crime-trackers-victim-of-d-v-speaks-out-after-getting-shot-in-the-head
