My Marathon Des Sables 2023 Mission

Hello, my name is Charlotte. I am a chiropractor, currently 41 years old, a type 1 diabetic and also have rheumatoid arthritis. Both conditions are well controlled and I am constantly on a voyage of discovery to learn more about myself.
2021 saw me complete the London marathon confidently, and also the length of Hadrian’s Wall, East to West, over 3 days.
I have entered the 2023 Marathon des Sables, arguably the toughest foot race on earth. 250km over the Sahara Desert, over 5 days, carrying everything I need on my back (including food for the 5 days, any equipment I need, sleeping bag etc. We do get given water as we go thank goodness ).
This is a challenge to each and every person attempting to complete it. My journey will be extra challenging due to the demands of managing two chronic and long term conditions, in temperatures over 40 degrees during the day and up to -1 degree over night.
Through this journey I want to raise valuable funds for T1 International as well as cover some of the equipment and medical costs that I will need in order to survive.
The cost of the entry alone is over £4000, which I will self fund, but will need a little help for some of the technical equipment.
