My Guilt short film

Donation protected
Hi! I am Diana Rincon-Zepeda, a 4th year film major at CSULB. Although I aspire to edit narrative films in the future and am in the post production track, I thought I would challenge myself to direct a short film in my final semester. The story comes from a very personal and vulnerable place for me. It is not easy for me to open up in this way, and even just pitching the idea was a very nerve-racking experience. I chose to push past my anxieties and commit to making this film because I thought that it would speak to the experience of those with special needs siblings. It is, I feel, a very unique experience to have. One often feels alone because the parent(s) prioritizes the needs of the sibling. Although it would be easy to deal with the loneliness by lashing out at the parent, one acknowledges that their parent may feel overwhelmed at the situation they have been placed into as the parent of a special needs person, so one may find oneself resenting their sibling. This results in immense guilt because how could one feel such resentment and anger towards a person that does not deserve it. They have not done anything wrong; that is literally just how they were born. And honestly, the parent has not done anything wrong either. It's just an uncomfortable, unchanging situation where no one is truly happy. It's so complex that I thought it would be easier to film than to put it into words, which is why I would like to create this film. It's the epitome of my guilt.

Funds raised will go towards feeding the amazing cast and crew, production design, and film festivals.
